As the year draws to an end, it’s not unusual to hear questions like, “What are you leaving behind in 2024?” We’ve all had our fair share of experiences, and let’s be honest—there’s definitely some weight we need to shed before stepping into the new year.

A few years ago, there was this craze: “Let the nonsense end in…” It was funny, especially with the boatload of memes it generated online. But honestly, it did have some truth to it. We all need a little space to laugh at the chaos while figuring out how to let go of what’s holding us back.

I think it’s good practice to call out the things we no longer want to associate with. It helps us set healthy boundaries and keeps us from falling into the same ruts. Even better if you’ve got accountability partners to keep you honest!

I could easily make a list of things I’m leaving behind, but this time, I want to look at it differently. I’ve been thinking about the things I want to take with me into 2025—the stuff that serves me, fuels me, and feels worth holding on to.

In no particular order, here are a few items from my list:

A little grace – Because we’re all just trying our best.

Remembering to celebrate small wins – No step is too small to be proud of.

Healthy relationships – And yes, reciprocated ones.

An attitude of growth – Staying open and willing to learn.

Rest, when needed – Because burnout isn’t the goal.

Self-redemption – A reminder that I can always try again.

A little faith – In myself, in others, and in what’s ahead.

As the year closes, I’m making space for what matters to me. What about you? What are you taking into the new year?
