Happy new year folks! I’m here with the annual (and most likely cliched) first post for the year. I love making lists (I can’t reiterate this quite enough) and I do love a good reminder. I’m going to give a brief overview of the new year and share with you a few mindsets/reminders that I’m taking along with me as I journey into the year 2023. I’m avoiding the term ‘new year resolutions’ because over the years they’ve accrued some kind of negative connotation(it feels like a hoax), hence reminders. These reminders come from different sources; a friend’s status, books, lessons and personal experiences from previous year(s).

I’m back to setting a personal theme for the year. After not having one last year, I’ve realized how significant this practice is to me. It’s a template. Templates guide you and act as some form of road map. It’s a skeletal structure upon which you build flesh. This is my take on it. I have a word theme and I can’t wait to see how much I’m able to do with it.

This year, I’m leaving behind sentimentality. I’m a very sentimental person and there’s nothing wrong with that. Except when you constantly feel stuck because you keep running to nostalgia instead of moving forward or facing life or making the decisions you need to. I’ve lost myself in being overly attached to things, people, situations and unable to logically think through things or make the right call. I’d like to spend more time outside my mind and living my life rather than constantly and unproductively thinking about it.

With regards to blogging goals, I’d be posting more often this year. I don’t want to give myself a specific number of time or frequency. I’d be bringing some book reviews your way and probably travel blogging.

A few reminders for myself this year (and hopefully you find helpful too):

  • Do that one thing that would actually take you a step towards your dream.
Many a times, we’re the ‘something’ that’s standing in our way. We’re our own setback. If that one thing is getting out of you way then, GET OUT OF YOUR OWN DAMN WAY
  • Be kind to yourself. Talk to yourself, encourage yourself like you would to someone you love. As you show compassion to others, remember to show yourself same.
  • In the course of working to achieve your goals, do not be only focused about getting or reaching a destination, but also how much you expand, grow, gain in that process. Success isn’t just about the destination. Otherwise we’ll be in a constant frantic state to reach and feel unsatisfied with whatever we’ve chalked (happened to me lots of times). The journey is as important as the destination.
  • Give yourself permission to start whenever you want to. You don’t need to wait for the end of a year or a beginning of a year to start sth new. Be flexible and be open to reviewing your goals/plans whenever the need arises.
  • We’re all born so beautiful. The greatest tragedy is being convinced that we are not”.
