I’ve known darkness and gloom
Way longer than I wish I did
There was no getting rid of it
And so I learnt to embrace it
The yang to my yin
I’ve heard my screams at night re-echo during the day
I’ve felt that emptiness that is within
And the disappointing frantic efforts to fill it up
Days when the music plays
and the only lyrics I hear is the thumping of my heart in my chest
I know what hopelessness feels like
When you’re at your wits end
Hanging by the end of the rope
And see no shimmer of light
It’s an abyss that begins
And goes on
A tale carved into my skin

And because I have seen and known this
I know what a satisfying well it is
I know so damn well what a beautiful thing hope is
Being able to see the little glimpse of light despite all the darkness
I’ve seen what it does to a person
How it gives strength to the broken man
Causes the wearied,battered and bruised man to rise up
I’ve seen the healing that it brings
How it stitches the wounds
It’s a balm that soothes
A lullaby that puts you to rest
I’ve seen what hope does to the crushed man
It’s breathtaking
transformational!
